In 1930, there was an evolution of harbour towage services and a transformation of navigation from sails to steam-powered vessels.
In 1960, the Group expanded its presence in the field of open-sea towing and salvage services.
In 1980, the Group entered the offshore oil industry, opening an office in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1990, Rimorchiatori Riuniti expanded its offshore presence in Brazil with the acquisition of four AHTS vessels. Additionally, the company successfully entered the dry cargo market with the purchase of two HandyMax ships with a capacity of 40,000 DWT each.
Taking advantage of a favorable market, in 2000, the Group took a significant step forward by placing orders for eight new vessels. Three Suezmax, one Aframax, and two 48,000 DWT Product Tankers were commissioned at Korean shipyards, while two 2,700 TEU container ships were built in Germany.
In 2010, has expanded their AHTS fleet by adding new tonnage. Four new tugboats were delivered from Italian and Spanish shipyards, primarily to serve the Brazilian market.
Crystal Pool is born to provide technical management services to the Group and external clients.
In 2016, all the harbour towage service services of the Group, both in Italy and abroad, are consolidated under Rimorchiatori Mediterranei company.
The company manages a fleet of approximately 170 tugboats. In 2017, Deutsche Asset Management becomes part of the company by acquiring 35% of Rimorchiatori Mediterranei. Simultaneously, investments are made in the dry cargo sector, with the addition of one Panamax and two Kamsarmax ships to the fleet, along with other vessels acquired for long-term leasing arrangements. To handle the commercial operations of the dry cargo fleet, Crystal Maritime Services is founded in London.
